May Day in South Sumatra, Herman Deru Committed to Improving Workers’ Welfare

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H Herman Deru joined hundreds of workers from various labor unions (KASBI, KSBSI, KBBI, SPSI, and Nikeuba Banyuasin) in the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) which was centered at the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD Yard, Thursday (1/5/2025).

Previously, the workers held a long march and conveyed a number of demands to the Governor. The demands include the revision of the South Sumatra Provincial Sectoral Minimum Wage (UMSP) from 3 to 9 sectors, the fulfillment of workers’ normative rights related to substandard wages and unpaid THR, strict action against negligent Disnaker supervisory employees, and the establishment of a labor desk at the South Sumatra Regional Police.

Responding to these aspirations, Governor Herman Deru, accompanied by the South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pol Andi Rian, promised to immediately issue a Governor’s Regulation (Pergub) regarding the revision of the UMSP to 9 sectors within one week, as long as it is in accordance with applicable legal corridors.

“The workers in South Sumatra must become prosperous workers,” said Herman Deru. He also appreciated the peaceful and orderly action carried out by the workers and acknowledged their contribution in reducing unemployment rates in South Sumatra.

“I invite all parties to unite, synergize, and collaborate for the progress of South Sumatra,” he concluded. (ojn/ril)
