Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo ensured that there would be no obstacles in securing the U-17 World Cup in November 2023, even though at the same time his party was currently securing the implementation of the 2024 election stages.
“Regarding the intersection with election activities, we have seen that the schedule for the series of elections in November 2023 may include campaign activities but it will still be a closed campaign,” said Sigit in Jakarta, Tuesday.
With this closed campaign stage, said Sigit, the National Police can optimally oversee the security process for the U-17 World Cup.
“Apart from that, we continue to monitor and protect the election stages that were taking place at that time,” he said.
According to the four-star general, his party has calculated the personnel strength to secure these two important agendas.
“I think we have calculated this and we are ready to secure both activities,” said Sigit.
Previously, the National Police Chief met with PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir to discuss security preparations for the U-17 World Cup.
Indonesia is the only debutant thanks to its status as host of a total of 24 participating countries.
The Garuda Muda squad is in Group A with Ecuador, Panama and Morocco.
The semifinals and final/fight for third place in the U-17 World Cup were held at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java. The semifinals were played on Tuesday (28/11). The battle for the top three positions was held on Friday (9/12). A day later, another top match was held.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta International Stadium is the “home base” for the countries that are part of the competition in Groups C (Brazil, England, Iran, New Caledonia) and E (France, South Korea, United States, Burkina Faso).
The Si Jalak Harupat Soreang Stadium, Bandung, West Java, hosted the qualifiers for Group D (Japan, Argentina, Senegal, Poland) and Group F (Mexico, Germany, New Zealand, Venezuela).
The U-17 World Cup preliminary round was divided into six groups with each group consisting of four teams representing each pot. In the group stage, the six group winners, six runners-up and the four best third-place teams have the right to advance to the round of 16. (mhn/bbs)
