Bandung, The Indonesia Post – West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil asked the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Java Province to curb illegal billboards that allegedly contain information or photos of people who will participate in the election contestation.
“That’s why I ask the KPU to immediately make rules. This is so that if people want to run, if they are careless, they can get a syringe from the Bawaslu and KPU,” said Ridwan Kamil, after closing the Socialization of Regulation and Consolidation of Provincial and Regency/City KPUs throughout West Java in the context of Preparation for the factual verification of political parties for the 2024 general election, in Bandung City, Wednesday.
A number of national or regional figures began to put up billboards containing their photos at a number of points in West Java, one of which was in the city of Bandung.
The governor also asked the West Java KPU to reflect, not only to carry out “top down” policies.
“What are the ways to make the event cheaper, but my comment is that democracy is expensive. So that one day this democracy will be a choice that is accepted by the people,” he said.
Responding to the West Java Governor’s request regarding the Baligo, the Chairperson of the West Java Provincial KPU, Rifki Ali Mubarok, said that his party was currently unable to regulate or regulate the existence of these illegal billboards.
“Because at this time there are no election participants or elections. So we also can’t act or arrange in that direction, because there are no participants or have not been determined,” he said.
Rifki said that the regulation of the illegal billboards could be carried out by the local government.
“If it goes into K3, it falls into the K3 category, Cleanliness, Beauty and Order (K3). So the local government can carry out the order,” he said.
Rifki further said that in 2020, the West Java KPU had issued a rule that for media campaigns it was better to do it on social media.
“But because now the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down, people are now choosing campaign media instead of social media, but directly like using billboards,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
