South Sumatra Acting Governor Encourages Acceleration of Development of New Palembang Port and Special Economic Zone

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Acting Governor of South Sumatra Elen Setiadi led a coordination meeting between the South Sumatra Provincial Government together with the Indonesian Ministry of Investment and Downstream / BKPM RI with Ministries / Institutions related to the construction of the New Palembang Port / New Palembang in Griya Agung, Wednesday, (6/11/2024).

Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Elen Setiadi, said that the construction of the New Palembang Port is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) that must be completed to support the optimization of downstreaming in South Sumatra.

“South Sumatra is full of abundant Natural Resources (SDA) potential such as minerals, oil and gas, and also plantations. However, based on statistical data, this does not get added value because there is no downstreaming. Meanwhile, downstream investment needs to be supported by adequate seaports,” he said.

In addition, there is the New Palembang Port which is considered to support the growth of the South Sumatra economy to be even better. Elen said that the progress of the construction of the New Palembang Port is currently at the stage of completing the certification process for Land Management (HPL) and other administrative processes needed.

“The issue of land and port schemes is the main thing. This land scheme determines whether this area can be proposed as a Special Economic Zone (KEK). In addition, we ask for assistance with the HPL process, and hopefully this can be followed up this week,” he said.

The South Sumatra Provincial Government strongly supports various efforts to accelerate the development of the New Palembang Port, including in efforts to resolve supporting land with the surrounding community.

“After everything is finished, we will then wait for the business model with a port development scheme that must be integrated with the industrial area. The port development pattern is made at the same time as the development pattern of the entire industrial area along with supporting infrastructure,” he said.

Elen hopes that the various steps that have been taken will accelerate efforts to accelerate the development of the New Palembang port.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstream/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu said that he strongly supports various efforts to accelerate the New Palembang Port to maximize the potential of natural resources in South Sumatra.

“We understand very well that the condition of the supply chain is the main factor in the less than optimal exploration process of South Sumatra’s natural resources. So of course we are focused so that this port can be realized soon,” he said

In addition, he also supports if the New Palembang Port is also developed into a Special Economic Zone (KEK) area as a downstream strategy that can even be developed for the reach of Southern Sumatra.

“I am sure that all support is actually ready to encourage downstream investment. We are really focused on encouraging the realization of the construction of the New Palembang Port so that exports of South Sumatra’s natural resources can be carried out easily,” he said

He is committed to ensuring that the support for the necessary processes can be carried out quickly so that this can also immediately improve the economy and welfare of the community, especially in South Sumatra.

“I hope coordination continues. This port is a necessity and not for the sake of interest. We must continue to synergize so that the implementation of this realization can be continued quickly,” he concluded.

This activity was also filled with discussions with KSOP, BPKP, Kemenhub and other related Ministries/Institutions. Also present on that occasion were the Heads of South Sumatra OPDs. (mhn/ril)
