President Jokowi: The pandemic has shown that problems can push everyone to work

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo said that the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit Indonesia since March 2020 has taught us that pressure can encourage all parties to work together.

“And I see that if we are stressed by a problem, we all work. So, what is it like to maintain it like that so that it goes on and on without stopping, what is it like?” said President Joko Widodo in Jakarta, Monday.

President Jokowi conveyed this at the “Covid-19 Handling Award” event to local governments, TNI/Polri, vaccination centers, telemedicine, laboratories, media, influencers, religious organizations, academics, friendly countries, BUMN, international organizations, foreign private agencies , domestic private institutions and NGOs that are considered to have contributed to society in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is what we need. If this is the case, don’t let us be sluggish again, with the problems we are still facing, it should be like that because I see it. From A to Z, we are all working hard to deal with COVID-19,” added the President.

The President emphasized that the way of working during the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic must be utilized in the post-pandemic government.

“Post pandemic governance’, I hope that we can really continue to have great power while dealing with the pandemic in overcoming other problems,” said the President.

According to the President, during the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, many work parties risked themselves.

“Many of our health workers have died in handling COVID-19. Many parties are working beyond their duties and functions. Many TNI and Polri have exceeded their duties and functions. Many parties have volunteered for our safety together and there are many lessons that we can learn during deal with COVID-19,” the President added.

Therefore, according to the President, all parties must continue to move synergistically, mobilize the strength of the nation’s components, carry out synergies from the central government to the villages, across ministries, across state government agencies including the DPR, BPK and other institutions as well as cross-sectoral synergies as well as community participation. .

“This must be continued. Don’t just stop at the COVID-19 business, because the COVID-19 pandemic has truly shown our extraordinary great power as a big nation. Therefore this power can not only be used for the nation’s big agenda but can also used to treat other diseases,” the President explained.

Other problems, for example, to overcome the problem of tuberculosis, stunting, increasing food production to reduce poverty.

“If we work like we are handling COVID-19, we can actually solve big problems like this quickly provided we work like we are handling COVID-19,” said the President.

Moreover, from COVID-19, President Jokowi also learned about receiving input and criticism regarding the lock down.

“We debate for days about lock down or not lock down nationally or limited to districts/provinces for what reason? Because we have no experience with this pandemic. I think there is a fair debate and no one knows which one is right and doesn’t know, Is this one correct or this one? So I listen to everything, I listen to all criticism, all countries have never experienced dealing with this pandemic,” said the President.

With these difficult and tense conditions, the Indonesian people, according to President Jokowi, have succeeded in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What is clear, compared to the world average, we have succeeded in dealing with COVID-19. In June 2022, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom said that the handling of COVUD 19 in Indonesia was among the best and the vaccination coverage was also the best. What we are talking about is not us, the Director General of WHO spoke. Then in September 2021 John Hopkis University also conveyed that Indonesia is one of the best in the world in reducing COVID-19 cases, it is not us who are speaking, they are speaking. This success is the hard work of all components of the nation ,” said the President. (mhn/bbs)
