Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded the ranks of the Indonesian National Police that justice and the benefit of the law must be felt in real terms by the community.
For this reason, in his mandate as Inspector of Bhayangkara’s 76th Anniversary Ceremony at the Police Academy Campus in Semarang City, Central Java, Tuesday, the President asked the Indonesian National Police to prioritize prevention in maintaining security and public order (kamtibmas).
“I need to remind the people that the sense of justice and the usefulness of the law must be felt by the people, the people must feel it,” he said in a ceremony broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube channel, Tuesday.
The President also asked the Indonesian National Police to uphold the humanistic aspect in carrying out their duties while maintaining firmness when needed.
“The National Police must prioritize prevention in maintaining security and order. Take various policing actions with a humanist, but firm when needed,” he said.
The President emphasized that law enforcement must be used as a last resort by maintaining adherence to procedures and upholding human rights values.
According to the President, the National Police as an institution and each of its members must continue to be able to innovate in the midst of challenging tasks that are getting tougher day by day.
“It must be more adaptive, responsive, and transformed into a modern institution, and synergize with the TNI, ministries, and institutions in carrying out their duties,” he said.
The President also reminded that there are at least three major national agendas that must be supported by the National Police in the near future, namely the construction of the nation’s capital city (IKN) Nusantara.
Second, the series of G20 agendas will culminate in the G20 Summit in Bali in November.
“The third big agenda of democracy is the Pilleg, Presidential Election and Simultaneous Pilkada in 2024. It must be anticipated well. Provide maximum security and security support so that this democratic party can run well,” he said.
The Bhayangkara 76th Anniversary ceremony involved at least 1,996 personnel from elements of the Police, TNI, and community exponents with the theme “Precise Police Supporting Economic Recovery and Structural Reforms to Realize a Tough-Tough-Indonesian Growing Indonesia”. (mhn/bbs)
