Prof. Dr. Eko Indra Heri, M.M.
“This time, the Karhutla Coordination Meeting discusses our success in dealing with forest and land fires in 2020. We hope that this can become a standard in 2021. And there is an increase in community awareness, now proven from 140 villages to 90 villages prone to forest and land fires,” he said.
HD said that in this meeting it was not only about prevention, but also long-term and short-term solutions to tackle forest and land fires. According to him, there must be awareness and solutions for the community. Apart from that, it is also necessary to give appreciation for the forest and forestry task force in districts / cities to villages.
For a long-term solution, HD instructs the forestry service to support the follow-up of efforts to manage unmanaged peatlands in collaboration with related parties so as to minimize the potential for forest and land fires. Land use can be started by making an inventory of the land in collaboration with LHK and BPN.
