Nadiem: The learning process is more optimal with the presence of practitioners

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim said the learning process was much more optimal with the presence of practitioners.

“With the presence of practitioners who teach on campus, practitioners’ involvement in planning and the learning process can take place more optimally,” said Nadiem at the launch of Teaching Practitioners in Jakarta, Friday.

He added that lecturers will gain the latest knowledge about the industrial world and students can meet face-to-face with practitioners.

“Today is a very happy day for all of us, because I believe the Practitioner Teaching program, which was launched as Merdeka Learning Episode 20, will further strengthen our efforts to transform the higher education system,” he said.

In an effort to accelerate the improvement of the quality of education, the Ministry of Education and Culture encourages universities to refer to the eight Main Performance Indexes (IKU). KPI is a new performance measure for universities to create adaptive universities based on more concrete outcomes.

“Through the Teaching Practitioner Program, we hope that the learning climate on campus will also be upgraded, in accordance with the performance indicators of the higher education institutions that we are targeting,” he said.

In particular, the Teaching Practitioner program focuses on achieving KPI number four and number seven. Referring to KPI number four, where practitioners are involved in course planning, later lecturers in Indonesia will gain the latest knowledge about the industrial world. In addition, students can also interact directly with practitioners who are experienced in their respective fields.

Then, referring to KPI number seven, students can study with the case study method of real problems. They can also apply the knowledge and theory they have gained to problem-solving models as well as develop non-technical skills (soft skills) in a collaborative group.

“The involvement of practitioners or professionals who encourage discussion of case studies in groups will accelerate the achievement of the KPI, which means accelerating the improvement of the quality of higher education,” he said. (ojn/bbs)
