Khofifah considers the declaration of presidential and vice presidential candidates to be a democratic process

Surabaya, The Indonesia Post – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa considers the declaration of Presidential Candidates and Vice Presidential Candidates (Capres and Cawapres) which are reportedly being held in his region to be a democratic process.

“October registration has started, in November registration will close and processes will definitely be carried out,” said Khofifah when met by journalists at the Grahadi State Building, Surabaya, Saturday.

According to the number one person in the ranks of the East Java Provincial Government, this process will indeed take place as a pillar of the democratic ecosystem.

“Previously there was a declaration that the presidential candidates are now in pairs, democracy is a necessity for a country that can build the pillars of a democratic ecosystem which is part of the process of becoming a nation and a state,” said the former Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the National Awakening Party (PKB) previously decided to accept the offer of political cooperation submitted by the NasDem Party to pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election.

This decision was made after the completion of the PKB DPP Joint Plenary Meeting which was held at the East Java PKB Regional Leadership Council Office, Jalan Menanggal, Surabaya, Friday afternoon.

Based on the schedule set by the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from 19 October to 25 November 2023.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Election Law), presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs are proposed by political parties or combinations of political parties participating in the election that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the number of DPR seats or obtaining 25 seats. percent of valid votes nationally in the previous DPR member elections.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election must have the support of a minimum of 115 seats in the DPR RI. It is also possible that candidate pairs will be nominated by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 General Election with a minimum total of 34,992,703 valid votes.
