Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his direction at the National Coordination Meeting of Regional Heads and the All-Indonesia Regional Leadership Communication Forum, in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, Tuesday, emphasized that he does not want the public to become victims of identity politics in the 2024 election.
“The issue of political stability and security leading up to the 2024 elections, I really ask you to maintain a conducive situation. Keeping our people from becoming victims of politics. It’s called identity politics,” said Jokowi.
He reminded the TNI and Polri officers not to get involved in practical politics, and asked regional heads and leaders to map potential election vulnerabilities.
“Don’t just rush here and there after the new incident. Whose fault is it? Whose fault is it?” he said anyway.
He emphasized that all parties must really have sensitivity in the political year and often go to the field, so that small incidents can be mitigated immediately.
“I really entrust this matter,” said Jokowi anyway.
On that occasion, the President also asked regional heads to ensure that all adherents of religions have the same right to worship, as guaranteed by the constitution.
He emphasized that there should not be a mayor’s regulation or regent’s instruction prohibiting the construction of places of worship. Because freedom of religion and worship is guaranteed by the constitution.
“Because I see it’s still happening. Sometimes I think ‘how difficult’ is it for the people who are going to worship? It’s sad to hear that,” said Jokowi. (mhn/bbs)
